Why travellers come to Batumi

Batumi — the Black Sea capital, from airport to seafront in ten minutes.

Batumi is Georgia’s second-largest city and the country’s principal Black Sea resort — a subtropical coast city with palm-lined boulevards, a 7-km seafront promenade, and a skyline of new high-rises that makes it look nothing like the rest of Georgia. The Batumi Airport (BUS) to city-centre hotel transfer is one of our shortest — typically 10–15 minutes depending on which seafront hotel you’ve booked.

The long-haul from Tbilisi

Travellers who fly into Tbilisi but want to spend time on the coast book the TBS-to-Batumi route regularly. The new motorway has cut the drive to roughly 5 hours; expect 6 hours in peak summer traffic. For a multi-day Black Sea + Caucasus itinerary, we typically recommend flying into Tbilisi, doing a Caucasus leg (Gudauri or Kazbegi), then a Kakheti / wine leg, then the long transfer to Batumi for the beach finale. The cross-country Sedan runs around €200; Minivan for a family of five runs €300 — single booking, one driver for the whole leg.

Where to stay, and which hotel zone to ask for

Batumi’s hotels cluster along three zones: the Old Boulevard (closest to the port and nightlife — Radisson, Sheraton, Le Meridien), the New Boulevard (north along the coast, quieter — Hilton, Hyatt, various apart-hotels), and the Gonio / Kvariati coast south of the airport (resort-style, further from city life). Every zone is within 10–20 minutes of BUS. When booking we ask which zone — it matters, because traffic through downtown in July and August can add 20 minutes.

Onward from Batumi

The two most-booked onward routes from Batumi are Batumi to Kobuleti (~30 min, the quieter resort town north along the coast) and Batumi to Mestia (~4.5 hours, the scenic route into Svaneti for travellers combining beach with mountains). The border crossing at Sarpi (into Turkey, toward Trabzon) is 20 minutes south and we run transfers both ways daily.
